ROJA are Ross Aitken and James Browning. Together they’ve been making films for over 20 years, encompassing scripted drama, documentary & animation, with a glint in their eye and a tongue in their cheek.

James Browning
James is an independent filmmaker, born and raised in Oxford. He has a Masters in Film from the University of Westminster.
James graduated from the London Film Academy in 2011 earning the school’s Film of the Year prize as Producer of the short film ‘Lifetime Guarantee’, he then (in 2012) interned at Andy Serkis ‘The Imaginarium’ working as a script reader.
Since then James has continued to Produce and Direct. His credits include the feature film ‘Kidnap Me’ (Writer/Producer/Director) nominated for Best Film at the BAFTA-qualifying 2017 Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, the short films ‘Clutter’ (Director) nominated for the Special Prize at the 2014 ‘This is England’ Film Festival in France, ‘Pretty Bonnets’ (Producer) which was In Competition in 12 (tbc) festivals worldwide across 2020-2021, and ‘Wall Cries’ (Producer/Director) in festivals since November 2023. He was a Producer on the 2021 double EVCOM award-winning documentary short ‘Brent Charlie: End of an Era’ and in 2023 Produced and Directed the Red Nose Day launch film, written by Richard Curtis and starring Lenny Henry and Diane Morgan.
Since 2023 James had worked as Line Producer and Project Manager on ‘RE:TV’ an ongoing series of documentary shorts for King Charles’ Sustainable Markets Initiative, and he is developing a feature film for production in 2025.
Ross made his first film at 15 with a hi-8 camera editing on VHS tapes. From there he’s written, produced and/or directed no end of comedy shorts, thriller features, zany corporates, stylish music videos, quirky animations and hard-hitting documentaries.
After a decade in TV production working on the likes of Time Team, Have I Got News For You, The Bedroom Diaries, Pineapple Dance Studios and Panorama, he set up Ikonic Films with James Browning, working with up-and-coming filmmakers to produce a new wave of digital-first content with wit and style.
In 2014, the experience culminated in feature film Kidnap Me, which had a theatrical release in 2018, and streaming from 2020.
Since then, he’s been working across TV, digital and drama for the likes of Atomized Studios, Parable, Curve Media and Endemol, often with James. Some of this work can be seen on this very website.
